A message from BLAGSS who came to the London2018 Political Reception last week…
“I am delighted to write to declare the support of the Brighton Lesbian and Gay Sports Society (BLAGSS) to the campaign to hold the 10th GayGames in London in 2018.
BLAGSS is one of the largest LGBT sports groups in the country. We have more than 500 members regularly taking part in a range of sporting activities from running to rock climbing, from golf to horse-riding.
BLAGSS holds the principles of the games: Inclusion, Participation and Personal Best in its own work here in Brighton and Hove. Some of our members join BLAGSS to make friends and find alternatives to the “scene”; others to get fit. Also have athletes who take part in international sporting events – such as the EuroGames and the Gay Games.
We have amongst our members medal winners in Petanque, Golf and Tennis. Our attendance at Gay Games started in 1990 in Vancouver at the Gay Olympics where we were excited by the possibilities of inclusion and participation, no matter what your level of competence in your sport. Each Games that we have attended has had a great sense of the “festival” with many cultural events supporting the sporting events. Brighton and Hove can offer fringe cultural events to the 2018 Gay Games and we would be delighted to help with these.
Our members will be excited to take part in the games in London in 2018.”
We love you.
